On August 22, 2025, Hoyoverse premiered their Zenless Zone Zero 2.2 Special Program, which is expected to release on September 4th, 2025.
We’re going to cover everything you need to know about this new patch so you can get ready for all the new new Agents, story content, gameplay events, and more.
Welcome to New Eridu: Orphie, Magus, & Seed
Orphie, Magus, and Seed are the newest additions to the ZZZ roster, all members of the Orbol Squad.

In version 2.1, Phaethon defeated the Exaltists with help from Suibian Temple, Spook Shack, and Alice Thymefield.
They were also able to stop Porcelumex who were working with the Exaltists under everyone’s noses. The situation within Waifei Peninsula is still turbulent after Porcelumex’s deception countless covert factions are still clashing behind the scenes.
As a result, the Defense Force has determined to enter Waifei Peninsula with Orbol Squad to neutralize the Exaltist threat.
Orbol Squad also has received key intel that shows a very intricate and dangerous Exaltist plot that will obviously require the expertise of Phaethon sooner. We’ll also get to see returns for Soldier 11 and Trigger.
If you’re dying to know more, you’ll have to play the 2.2 Story Mission, “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night”.
Learn More About Seed’s Origins
In the trailer, Magus reveals the origins of Seed, an orphan who was found by Seed Sr in the Hollow.
After rescuing her, they both became inseparable. Now that Seed Sr is “asleep”, it’s Magus and Orphie have taken the responsibility of taking care of Seed who has recently become a shut-in.
Orphie and Magus seek the help of Phaeton to connect with Seed and uncover the mystery of her past in the new Agent story “Flora of the Blooming Valley”.
Seed feels strangely drawn to Phaeton, and in this mission, we’ll finally learn why.
Seed and Orphie are Very Interesting Characters

For context, here is what we know about Seed (S-Rank, Attack/Electric):
- Seed relies on Seed Sr to deal massive Electric damage. Think of Seed Sr as a Gundam, wielded by Seed to perform basic attacks and EX.
- Seed can give performance buffs to any Agent of her choosing in a squd
- Seed can use and replenish “Steel Charge” and perform powerful Electric attacks mobilely and in the air.
Here’s what we know about Magus & Orphie (S-Rank, Attack/Fire)
- Magus & Orphie can attack simultaneously with any Agent to accumulate “Bottled Heat”.
- With enough Bottled Heat, both can unleash the special attack “Crimson Vortex” during support.
- When Bottled Heat is fully charged, players can hold the EX button to release “Heat Charge”, a super-charged fire beam that looks like a flamethrower.
- When Bottled Heat is charged, players can use EX to pretty much become invulnerable and strike and stun enemies on demand.
Seed, Orphie, and Magus give significant benefits to other Agents. And, since they’re wonderful supports, you can simply switch to your main character and build up Bottled Heat while attacking.
Once Bottled Heat is accumulated, switch back to Orphie & Magus, and use “Heat Charge”. Then, rinse and repeat.
And guess what? Once your reach the Zeroed In state, you can use the special attack “Dance with Fire” to send a continuous laser beam toward the enemy during an assist, which stuns the enemy while giving other Agents plenty of time to attack.
A New Bangboo: Excaliboo
And, here is yet another cute and deadly addition to ZZZ’s growing roster of Bangboo.
Here comes Excaliboo:
It’s pretty interesting how Excaliboo can attack both with the sword still in the rock, and without it.

Evelyn and Trigger is Also Returning as a Banner
In addition to Seed, Orphie, and Magus, Trigger (S-Rank Stun/Electric) and Evelyn (S-Rank Attack, Fire) will be returning as S-rank banners in Zenless Zone Zero 2.2 with their respective W-engines.
Both are fantastic Agents, so you better have a whole bunch of Polychromes saved up as every Agent is worth pulling for in this new update.
New Content & Other Important Updates
Alright, here are some more important updates you should definitely check out as they involve character arcs and free rewards:

You can hangout with Seed, Magus & Orphie to build trust and gain their wallpapers.

Proxies can take advantage of Check-In events to earn up to 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and Boopons. Just login everyday and claim these free rewards.

Band of Brave Bangboo is a new event where Agents will need to deploy different types of Bangboo to complete battle assessments. And this is going to be a challenging one including environment hazards like bushes and Miasma (Completing this unlocks Excaliboo)

There is a new event called Problem Solver: Boot Camp where we once again get to interact with our favorite Obol Squad members: Seed, Magus, & Orphie. This is a battle simulation event where progression can lead to special rewards.

The new HIA event Spotlight Showdown will feature different themed battles everday, where there will be special conditions for challenging difficult bosses.

Talk to Paige to begin the mission Rhythm Rave to press the music equipment at the right time to receive a Namecard and free Polychromes.

In Eh-Nah Treasure Hunt, Proxies can begin a treasure hunting journey with Ellen to earn up to 1 million Dennys (and collectibles). Best believe, you’re gonna have to earn your Denny as you’ll be putting together clues from photos across many different regions.

In the new event, Wish Bottle Adrift, Proxies can visit the Sea God to “pray” for exclusive rewards. You can get a wish bottle for all the battery you spend, meaning you can gain rewards by just playing the game as you normally would.
Finally, here is some general housekeeping updates for the Devlog:
- Shibuya Defense and Deadly Assault have new seasonal content and will deliver new pre-set configurations so Proxies can switch teams more easily. New commissions will also arrive so you can earn the all-new drive disc series: Dawn’s Bloom & Moonlight Lullaby.
- Advanced Bounty: Routine Cleanup and Data Bounty: Combat Simulation have double reward events this season.
- There are tons of improvements for the Suibian Temple Renovation interface, giving you recommendations for the best Bangboo for crafting resources, teleportation fixes, and some helpful UX patches.
- Players can check Agent locations directly from the Map Locations list. You can also find Agents on specific maps in the Quick Navigation feature. Pretty cool if you want to locate Agents for hangouts and special events quickly.
- Trust events have been updates so the player can choose which Proxy (Belle and Wise) to participate in hangout events. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but if you’re a shipper, this may be a good new feature for you.
- The Agent interface can now hide agents you don’t work with. You can also view W-engine recomendations so you can optimize your squads more efficiently.
- The Display Stand in your room can now hold up to 20 items.
- Razor and ZZZ have partnered to release a custom keyboard, mousepad, and gaming chair with a spectacular design centered around Hoshimi Miyabi. Preorders begin on August 22nd.
