A brand-new trailer for The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc has officially been released, featuring the theme song “YES” by LiSA and confirming a special Premiere Screening event for fans. The film is set to premiere in theaters on May 8, 2026.
In 2096, nearly a century had passed since magic was established as a real-life technology. A certain brother and sister were approaching the winter of their second year of high school. His older brother, Tatsuya, was born with a fatal flaw as a magician. Miyuki is the younger sister who has a rare talent as a magician and is perfect in both appearance and intelligence. Although they are in different positions, they have been close siblings, an inferior student and an excellent student. Until a letter arrived――――.
The letter was an invitation to a New Year’s Day gathering 〈Keishunkai〉 held at Yotsuba Honke. This gathering brings together the head of the family, Yotsuba Mayo, and the heads of the branch families, and the next head of the Yotsuba family will be nominated. Miyuki was afraid that she would be named head of the family. If you become the head of the family, you will not be allowed to remain single and will be required to marry. That means letting go of the days that are with Tatsuya.
However, by becoming the head of the family, Miyuki is able to change Tatsuya’s position, which had previously been treated poorly as a guardian. Miyuki, who wants Tatsuya’s freedom, makes a big decision on the way to Yotsuba Honke.
“Brother. I will be the head of the Yotsuba family.”
『The fate of the strongest brother and sister』. And the shocking truth hidden between the two of them.
As the Yotsuba family’s intrigues swirl, the brother and sister’s story reaches a single conclusion——.
What makes this series so gripping is the absolute devotion between Tatsuya and Miyuki, and seeing that bond threatened by the inner workings of the powerful Yotsuba clan is exactly why I love this anime. The trailer hints at a heavy emotional burden for Miyuki, as her uncles seek to tear the siblings apart, leading to a high-stakes conflict within the family.
It appears the movie will focus on the dramatic choice Miyuki must make which is accepting the position as the next head of the Yotsuba just to protect her life with Tatsuya. The intense atmosphere in the trailer is perfectly captured by LiSA’s new song “YES,” which brings back the high-energy feel fans have loved since the series’ beginning. For anyone following the anime, this arc feels like the ultimate turning point in their destiny.
The Premiere Screening for the film will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Shinjuku Wald 9, starting at 18:30 before the screening, with tickets available for 2,800 yen. The event is expected to feature appearances by Saori Hayami and Director Jimmy Stone. Fans can participate in the pre-sale lottery via Ticket Pia until April 9 at 23:59, with general ticket sales beginning on April 11 at 10:00.
