Capcom used its TGS 2025 Online Program to drop a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the next big entry in the long-running series.

Disclaimer: Rated RP-M for blood, gore, and violence. You’ve been warned.

The trailer focuses on Musashi’s storyline, showing how the legendary swordsman will be pulled into the series’ trademark blend of samurai drama and supernatural action.

The game is slated for 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Here’s what we know so far:

FeatureDetails
TitleOnimusha: Way of the Sword
PlatformsPS5, Xbox Series X
Release Window2026
FocusMusashi’s story, Sengoku-era setting with supernatural elements
Series BackgroundOngoing since 2001, blending real Japanese history with fantasy

The Onimusha franchise debuted back in 2001, retelling Sengoku-era history through the lens of survival action and demonic encounters. Over the years, it has delivered some of Capcom’s most stylish and atmospheric work.

The most recent projects included remasters of Onimusha: Warlords (2019) and Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny (2024).

The series has expanded beyond games too.

There was a CG film based on Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006, and more recently, a Netflix anime adaptation in 2023 directed by Shin’ya Sugai with Takashi Miike as supervising director.

With Way of the Sword, Capcom is signaling a proper return for the series.

Fans, like me, who grew up on the PS2-era games will recognize the DNA here, but the new focus on Musashi could give this entry a sharper narrative hook.

Let’s wait and see what the finished product looks like.
