Illuga is the new 4-star Geo support character in Genshin Impact Luna IV, focusing on Geo and Lunar-Crystallize Reaction. With the rise of Lunar-Crystallize in Nod-Krai, Illuga is a great support to be added in the team, even with Constellation 0. And one of the most important efect: he can increase Moonsign by 1, which is important for many Nod-Krai characters (especially the DPS). Let’s see how he works and what’s the best build for Illuga in Genshin Impact.

Illuga Kit & Overview
Illuga is an extremely easy character to use. Once it’s his turn, simply use Skill and Burst, before swapping to the next character (Or Burst > Skill if you’re using Kitain Cross Spear). Now, let’s explain in simpler term what his Skill and Burst do:
Elemental Skill
Tap Illuga’s Elemental Skill to summon messenger bird Aedon, who dashes towards the front, dealing Geo DMG to enemies. Hold Illuga’s Elemental Skill to take aim.
That’s it. That’s the whole shtick. His Elemental Skill basically just deal some damage. The important aspect of Illuga’s skill is how it can activate his passive skill #1 (will be mentioned below).
Elemental Burst
After unleashing Elemental Burst, Illuga deals an instance of Geo DMG to nearby enemies and gains 21 Nightingale’s Song stacks that will stay for 20s, increasing the Geo DMG dealt by active party member’s Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts. If the Geo DMG dealt is Lunar-Crystallize DMG, the DMG will be further enhanced.
If there are Geo Constructs on the field when Illuga unleashes his Elemental Burst, or if Geo Constructs are created on the field within a certain duration after Illuga unleashes his Elemental Burst, he will gain additional stacks of Nightingale’s Song.
TLDR: This is Illuga’s bread and butter. By using Burst, he will gain Nightingale’s Song stacks. And once your DPS deal Geo DMG to opponents, 1 stack of Nightingale’s Song will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt. Note that the Lunar-Crystallize damage buff from these stacks is higher than Geo damage buff.
Ascension Passive #1 – Torchforger’s Covenant
After unleashing Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst, nearby party members will gain the Lightkeeper’s Oath effect for 20s: For Geo DMG dealt to opponents, CRIT Rate increases by 5% and CRIT DMG increases by 10%.
At Constellation 6, the effects will be enhanced to the following: CRIT Rate is increased by 10%, CRIT DMG is increased by 30%.
If the team has Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam
When party members are affected by the Lightkeeper’s Oath effect, Elemental Mastery is increased by 50.
At Constellation 6, the effects will be enhanced to the following: Elemental Mastery is increased by 80.
TLDR: Simply by using Illuga’s Skill or Burst, the whole team will gain increased Crit Rate and Crit DMG when dealing Geo DMG. In addition, if you activate the Ascendant Gleam team effect, the team will also gain Elemental Mastery.
Ascension Passive #2 – Demonhunter’s Dusk
Nightingale’s Song’s effects are enhanced: When there are 1/2/3 Hydro or Geo characters in the party, Nightingale’s Song will further increase DMG.
Increase in DMG is equal to 7%/14%/24% of Illuga’s Elemental Mastery. If this aforementioned DMG is inflicted by a Lunar-Crystallize reaction, increase in DMG is equal to 48%/96%/160% of Illuga’s Elemental Mastery.
TLDR: Putting Illuga in Geo and Hydro only team will benefit his Elemental Burst as it will further increase the team’s damage through Nightingale’s Song stacks.

If he’s using Favonius Lance, make sure to prioritize Crit Rate so it will reach at least 50%. Use Crit Circlet if you have to.
Illuga Synergy & Team Compositions
Currently in version Luna IV, there are not too many teams for Illuga because of how rare is Lunar-Crystallize team. He’s the BiS (best-in-slot) for certain Geo DPS, and I’m sure you know who she is. But outside of Lunar-Crystallize team, he does not benefit everyone as much as Gorou who is more flexible and suits in many Geo teams.
Lunar-Crystallize Team
Zibai is the first dedicated Lunar-Crystallize DPS in Genshin Impact, and Illuga’s kit is made just for her. Since Illuga’s buff has a long duration, he can be first or second character in the rotation to use Skill and Burst before swapping to another support then Zibai.
Illuga’s buff caters more to Lunar-Crystallize Damage instead of Geo Damage, so normal Geo DPSes like Itto and Navia may not be the best to be paired with Illuga. However, if you can add Columbina into the team so she can fully utilize the Lunar-Crystallize buff, the team can do better in end-games!
Illuga Talent Priority
Burst > Skill > Normal ATK
Illuga’s main attraction is the Geo and Lunar-Crystallize Reaction DMG Bonus from his Burst, hence the huge importance to upgrade his Burst first and make sure he has enough energy to use said Ultimate in every rotation. Next is his Skill for some more damage. While his Normal ATK can be left alone because 99% of you will never be using his NA on field.
