Neuvillette, the Chief Justice of Fontaine, is a complex character with vast power, both in terms of his lore within Genshin Impact and his in-game abilities.
From his control over Hydro to his critical role in restoring life to the Fontainians, Neuvillette’s strength and abilities far exceed many of the current Archons in several ways.
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers about Neuvillette’s role in Genshin Impact’s lore, and some in-game mechanics regarding his power.
Neuvillette’s Power in Genshin Impact Lore
Neuvillette’s true strength lies not only in his hydro manipulation but also in the monumental responsibility he holds within Fontaine.
He is revered as the living embodiment of Fontaine’s Justice, yet his power reaches far beyond mere enforcement of law.
Omnipotent Control Over Hydro:
- Neuvillette’s mastery over Hydro appears to be far more omnipotent than any other character currently known to control the element. His Hydro abilities are not simply limited to attack, but also extend to creation and restoration, something that makes him more powerful than most of the Elemental Deities in the game.
- In fact, Neuvillette is responsible for restoring life to the Fontainians, giving him an almost godlike status. This is particularly significant because Fontaine is the only region where the Hydro element directly interacts with the essence of life and death, much unlike Focalors and her predecessor, who was seemingly far less effective at this monumental task.
Restoring Life to the Fontainians:
- Neuvillette’s strength is further underscored by the fact that he has defied the odds of death by restoring life to people in Fontaine who were on the brink of death. His ability to revive life is far beyond the scope of most other characters within Teyvat.
- It can be argued that Neuvillette’s role as the Chief Justice extends beyond just upholding the law. His omniscient control over Hydro allows him to manipulate life forces, a feat that seems to place him above even some Archons themselves.
His Feats are Greater than the Strongest Archons
Ei and Zhong-Li are two of the strongest Archons in Genshin Impact and both have monstrous feats.
Aether barely was able to defeat Ei even with the help of countless visions and Zhong-Li basically reshaped the entire topography of Liyue.
Ei easily defeated Signora with callous disregard of pissing off the Tsaritsa in Sneznaya. Zhong-Li gave up his gnosis volunarily and had no fear in the world of any of the Fatui coming to take it.
Both are monsters with abilities that supercede the Traveler. But, Neuvillette’s feat of making the Fontainians human is much greater because it was far past the scale of Focolors and Egeria’s power.
Even without receiving his true power, he still one-shotted Childe like he was nothing. The boss fight against Tartaglia showed how strong he was even though Aether defeated him.
Yet, Neuvillette took him down quickly like a boss.
No one, at least not yet, has shown omnipotence over their element in the way Neuvillette has. It also makes sense as this type of power is innate for dragons in Genshin Impact, showing that Neuvillette is a tier above the Archons.
Granted, if Neuvillette or other dragons were as powerful before, why was their power taken in the first place? I don’t have answers to that just yet, but for now, Neuvillette is strongert than both Ei and Zhong-Li in my mind.
Neuvillette’s Strength as an In-Game Character
As a playable character in Genshin Impact, Neuvillette is a Hydro-based DPS and support character who excels in dealing massive AoE Hydro damage while also offering utility to his team.
His abilities, inspired by his lore, allow him to control Hydro in an extraordinary way, making him a formidable force both in combat and in team support.
Elemental Skill: Aqua Simulacra
Neuvillette’s Elemental Skill is called Aqua Simulacra, and it allows him to create Hydro energy in the form of a Hydro damage AoE attack.
When activated, this skill summons Hydro constructs that damage enemies within its range and apply the Hydro status to enemies, setting them up for Elemental Reactions with Pyro, Cryo, or Electro characters.
Aqua Simulacra also offers a bonus that applies Hydro damage to nearby enemies over time, reinforcing his role as a Hydro-based DPS while ensuring that his abilities remain effective for long-term combat.
Elemental Burst: Oath of the Sea
Neuvillette’s Elemental Burst, Oath of the Sea, unleashes a massive torrent of Hydro energy, dealing AoE Hydro damage to all enemies in its path. This burst of Hydro power is perfect for triggering powerful Elemental Reactions and providing continuous damage throughout a fight.
Additionally, his Elemental Burst may grant bonus Hydro damage for a period after activation, making him a great choice for reaction-based teams. He is capable of amplifying the power of Hydro reactions such as Vaporize and Electro-Charged, increasing overall team damage.
Passive Talents: The Judge’s Wrath & Hydro’s Blessing
Neuvillette’s Passive Talents complement his role as both a damage dealer and a support character:
- The Judge’s Wrath increases the Hydro damage of Neuvillette and allies in the area of effect after Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst activation, making him particularly effective in group combat scenarios.
- Hydro’s Blessing grants Neuvillette the ability to heal allies under specific conditions after he activates his Elemental Burst. This healing ability makes him versatile as a sustaining character on the battlefield, providing both offense and support.
Strengths in Combat:
- Hydro Dominance: Neuvillette’s Hydro abilities make him highly effective in triggering Elemental Reactions, making him a great asset to teams that capitalize on reaction-based strategies.
- AoE Damage: His Elemental Burst deals significant AoE Hydro damage, making him ideal for clearing waves of enemies while applying Hydro status to multiple targets at once.
- Support Role: In addition to his damage-dealing abilities, Neuvillette’s healing and Hydro amplification abilities allow him to fulfill a support role, making him a balanced choice for various team compositions.
Just How Strong is Neuvillette?
As a playable character, Neuvillette stands out for his ability to deal powerful Hydro damage, trigger potent Elemental Reactions, and provide team support through his healing abilities. His Hydro control and AoE damage make him a must-have for any team looking to enhance their reaction-based damage while benefiting from Hydro manipulation.
In terms of power, Neuvillette is a well-rounded character who is not just a strong DPS, but also an excellent support character with his healing and buffing capabilities.
