“Unexpected Encounter” is the second quest in Archon Quest Prologue: Act II – For a Tomorrow Without Tears and serves as the moment when the Traveler and Paimon cross paths with an important new ally.
This quest takes you deeper into the growing mystery surrounding Stormterror, introduces a strange yet familiar figure, and sets the stage for the events that follow.
This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough to help you complete the quest efficiently and prepare for the next chapter in Mondstadt’s story.
Quest Details
- Quest Name: Unexpected Encounter
- Quest Type: Archon Quest
- Chapter: Prologue: Act II – For a Tomorrow Without Tears
- Location: Mondstadt → Outside City Gates
- Quest Giver: Automatic after completing Shadow Over Mondstadt
- Recommended Level: 10+
Objectives
- Talk to Paimon and discuss recent events
- Use Elemental Sight to investigate a trail of footprints
- Follow the footprints and uncover the mystery
Walkthrough
1. Talk to Paimon

After completing Shadow Over Mondstadt, exit the Knights of Favonius Headquarters to trigger a dialogue with Paimon. She will reflect on recent events, discussing:
✔ The Knights’ reaction to Stormterror’s increasing aggression
✔ Jean’s frustration with Mondstadt’s vulnerability
✔ The mystery surrounding the Fatui and the Abyss Order
As always, Paimon keeps things lighthearted, but it’s clear that Mondstadt is in serious danger.
2. Use Elemental Sight to Track the Mystery Figure

Paimon notices something strange nearby, and your next objective is to investigate footprints leading away from the city.
✔ Activate Elemental Sight by holding the designated button (Middle Mouse Button on PC, L1 + Left D-Pad on PlayStation)
✔ A blue glowing trail of footprints will appear
✔ Follow the trail out of the city toward Windrise
The footprints indicate that someone—or something—has been lurking nearby, and the Traveler is determined to find out who.
3. Follow the Footprints and Uncover the Mystery

As you track the footprints, they eventually lead you to a familiar-looking figure standing near the Statue of The Seven at Windrise.
Here, you will officially meet Venti, the wandering bard of Mondstadt. His carefree attitude and poetic speech don’t immediately make it obvious how important he is, but this marks the beginning of one of the most significant character introductions in the Archon Questline.
✔ Approach Venti and engage in conversation
✔ He will mention Stormterror (Dvalin) by name, indicating he knows more than he lets on
✔ Venti hints at having a solution to Mondstadt’s crisis, but doesn’t reveal everything just yet
At this point, the quest concludes, and the next stage in the story begins.
Rewards
Completing Unexpected Encounter grants the following rewards:
- Adventure EXP: 275
- Mora: 4,600
- Primogems: 30
- Hero’s Wit: 1
These resources help level up your Traveler and team, preparing you for the next phase of the Archon Questline.
Tips
✔ Use Elemental Sight in short bursts – The trail disappears after a few seconds but can be reactivated at any time.
✔ Pay close attention to Venti’s dialogue – While he seems like just another bard, his words hint at his deeper connection to Mondstadt’s history.
✔ Prepare for upcoming battles – The next few quests will involve combat encounters and stealth mechanics, so ensure your team is equipped with strong artifacts and weapons.
With the mystery of the wandering bard now revealed, it’s time to follow Venti’s plan to stop Stormterror’s rampage. The next quest, “That Green Fellow,” will take you deeper into Venti’s past and his true connection to Dvalin.

Dante is Editor-in-Chief (Lord Hokage), which means he runs editorial and operations at BrandAnime. That means this whole thing was his idea, and he spends his time making stuff work and covering the latest anime and games. When he's not doing 100 things at once, he's usually... watching anime or playing games. His life isn't that interesting, honestly.
