Durin is the long awaited Pyro Sub-DPS in Genshin Impact community, allowing him to give Bennett, Xiangling, and Mavuika the rest they deserve after being overworked for years. What can Durin do in Genshin Impact? First of all, he’s flexible in both DPS and support roles. In support roles, he has the multi-element RES reduction (up to 2 elements). And the fan-favorite, the ability to cast long-range and continuous off-field Pyro application!

Durin Kit & Overview

Elemental Skill & Burst

Durin’s kit in Genshin Impact may seem convoluted at first because of the long text, but trust me, it’s extremely simple! First of all, know that Durin can freely switch between two different powers, and through his Elemental Burst, display distinct combat styles.
➡ The first power is the Dragon of White Flame, which can cast long-range and continuous off-field AoE Pyro application, and reduce the Pyro-reactions RES (only for Anemo, Pyro, Electro, Dendro, and Geo). This is Durin’s support form!
➡ The second power is the Dragon of Dark Decay, which also gives long-range and continuous off-field Pyro DPS. However, this one is single-target Pyro application, and will not reduce any Pyro-reaction RES. But it will increase Durin’s Vaporize and Melt damage. This is Durin’s DPS form!

Dragon of White Flame (Support form)

To enter the White Flame form, once Durin uses his Elemental Skill, use Skill once more to enter the “Confirmation of Purity” state. Upon entering this state, he will restore a certain amount of Energy. But you will not get any buff yet! For that, you need to use his Elemental Burst to enter the White Flame form and get the promised continuous AoE Pyro application, and reducing enemies Pyro (+ element that reacted to it) RES.
TLRD: Use Skill > Special Skill to enter Confirmation of Purity state. Now, use Burst to enter Dragon of White Flame form.

This is how it looks like after entering Durin’s White Flame form. You should always change to your main DPS so Durin’s off-field Pyro application can do its work and your DPS can dish out the damage they were supposed to.

Remember! After nearby party members trigger Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize reactions on an opponent, or deal Pyro DMG or Dendro DMG to an opponent affected by Burning, that opponent’s Pyro RES, and the RES for the corresponding Element involved in the reaction, are decreased by 20% for 6s.

Dragon of Dark Decay (DPS form)

To enter the Dark Decay form, once Durin uses his Elemental Skill, use Normal Attack to enter the “Denial of Darkness” state. Upon entering this state, he will restore a certain amount of Energy. But you will not get anything yet! To enter his true DPS form, you need to use his Elemental Burst to to enter the Dark Decay form and get the promised continuous single-target DPS and increasing Durin’s Melt/Vaporize damage!
TLDR: Use Skill > Normal Attack to enter Denial of Darkness state, Then, use Burst to enter Dragon of Dark Decay form.

This is how it looks like after entering Durin’s Dark Decay form. You can choose whether you want to play Durin as the on-field DPS (hopefully with C6 Bennett so Durin’s NA will deal Pyro DMG to trigger extra reactions) or off-field DPS (with other characters such as Mona or Wriothesley inflicting Hydro/Cryo on enemy so Durin’s off-field Pyro DMG will trigger the Vaporize/Melt reaction).
Remember! In this form, only Durin’s Vaporize DMG is increased by 40% and his Melt DMG is increased by 40%. There are no reducing enemies’ Pyro RES.

Hexerei: Secret Rite

After completing Witch’s Homework: Of This World, Durin will become a Hexerei character. When the party includes at least 2 Hexerei characters, you will gain the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect, which enhances Hexerei characters.

Hexerei: Secret Rite
In Dragon of White Flame form, his Pyro (and corresponding element) RES reduction will now be 35%.
In Dragon of Dark Decay form, Durin’s Vaporize and Melt DMG will now be 70%.

Durin Best Weapon (Sword)

Support-focused Durin Weapons

Note that this recommendation is for Support-focused Durin! The recommendation for DPS-focused Durin can be seen below this table.

WeaponsNamesPassive Skill
Athame Artis
(Crit Rate | 33.1%)
CRIT DMG from Elemental Bursts is increased by 16/20/24/28/32%. When an Elemental Burst hits an opponent, gain the Blade of the Daylight Hours effect: ATK is increased by 20/25/30/35/40%. Nearby active party members other than the equipping character have their ATK increased by 16/20/24/28/32% for 3s.
Additionally, when the party possesses Hexerei: Secret Rite effects, the effects of Blade of the Daylight Hours are increased by an additional 75%. This effect can be triggered even if the equipping character is off-field.
Note: The results differ between having the Hexerei effect or not.

5⭐ CRIT SwordsNote: The best being Primordial Jade Cutter, followed by Mistsplitter Reforged. Then, all the images below the two swords.
Freedom-Sworn
(Elemental Mastery | 198)
Increases DMG by 10~20%.
When the character wielding this weapon triggers Elemental Reactions, they gain a Sigil of Rebellion. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s and can be triggered even if said character is not on the field.
When you possess 2 Sigils of Rebellion, all of them will be consumed and all nearby party members will obtain “Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance” for 12s.
“Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance” increases Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG by 16~32% and increases ATK by 20~40%. Once this effect is triggered, you will not gain Sigils of Rebellion for 20s.
Of the many effects of the “Millennial Movement,” buffs of the same type will not stack.
Note: This weapon is only suitable for ATK-scaling Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attack DPS characters.
Xiphos’ Moonlight
(Elemental Mastery | 165)
The following effect will trigger every 10s: The equipping character will gain 0.036~0.072% Energy Recharge for each point of Elemental Mastery they possess for 12s, with nearby party members gaining 30% of this buff for the same duration. Multiple instances of this weapon can allow this buff to stack. This effect will still trigger even if the character is not on the field.
Note: This weapon is best used with some EM investment on Durin, where he triggers Overload or Burgeon in the team. Example of Burgeon Durin with full EM here.

DPS-focused Durin Weapons

Note that this recommendation is for DPS Durin (on-field and off-field) where we focused on his Elemental Burst damage! We recommend you using these weapons instead of the support-focused weapon for Durin, but there is nothing wrong with using the weapons above, of course!

Durin Synergy & Team Compositions

White Durin Team Composition Examples

Since Durin is an off-field Pyro applicator, there are so SO many teams that are suitable for him in Genshin Impact. First, let’s talk about White Durin – because this form has countless teams compared to Dark Durin.
The formula is simple for White Durin, add him as the off-field Sub-DPS, another one for the main and on-field DPS. The third slot can be given to Hexerei to maximize Durin’s buff (it’s okay even if you don’t have them and use a non-Hexerei character), while the last slot can be flexible; you can bring a support, healer, shielder or anything that suits the team.

This is the new default team for Overload; Durin and Fischl as a pair of Hexerei, Chevreuse being the Queen of Overload she is. The last slot will be for the main DPS: especially for Electro or Pyro on-fielder. If you’re using Razor as the main DPS, you can switch out Fischl for C6 Bennett (you will be surprised by the damage!).

Next is Burning Team. Oh you thought Natlan DPS will be forgotten once Nod-Krai arrives. Nope, Kinich got a brand new shining team as Durin is such a great off-field applicator for him. The third slot can be given to Emilie – the Queen of Burning. While the last slot can be given to an ATK buffer like Iansan or Bennett.

Since Albedo got a huge buff because of his Hexerei resonance, the combination of Durin and Albedo is deadly! And guess who gets the most out of this? Navia of course! With Albedo’s Skill that will not be removed as easily as before, getting the Elemental Shard for Navia’s Skill is much easier. Another team combination can be Durin – Albedo – Mualani – Xilonen!

This is definitely not the last team for White Durin, but there are just so many we can’t possibly list them all. If Albedo’s Hexerei buff make him viable to many teams, then Venti’s Hexerei buff open up a new gameplay for our Anemo Archon – the main DPS. Yes, our drunkard will now step up to be the main DPS with his 3rd signature weapon, and Durin is the best partner for him!

Dark Durin Team Composition Examples

Unfortunately, Dark Durin does not receive the same treatment as White Durin as the former has much more limited team compositions compared to the latter. But enough of that, let’s go back to topic. Dark Durin can be played as both on-field and off-field DPS. For the on-field, it’s best if you have C6 Bennett so Durin’s Normal Attack will be infused with Pyro. You can see in the video above some team compositions of Dark Durin.

Durin Talent Priority

Burst > Skill > Normal Attack

Please remember that Durin’s off-field attacks all come from his Elemental Burst, not Skill! That’s why his Burst is the main priority. On the other hand, if you’re not building him as the on-field DPS, it’s better to save materials and not level up the Normal Attack.

Durin Constellation Overview

Best Constellations: C1, C2 & C6

ConstellationsEffect
Constellation 1 ★After casting his Elemental Burst, Durin’s effects will vary depending on the form of his Elemental Burst:
➡ Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts: All other nearby party members gain 20 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment lasting 20s. When nearby active characters deal Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Plunging Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst DMG, 1 stack of Cycle of Enlightenment will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 60% of Durin’s ATK. Stack counts for characters in the party who have Cycle of Enlightenment are managed individually.
➡ Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder: Durin gains 20 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment lasting 20s. When Durin deals Elemental Burst DMG, 2 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 150% of Durin’s ATK.
When an Elemental Burst is used, Cycle of Enlightenment stacks will be refreshed.
Constellation 2 ★For 20s after Durin uses an Elemental Burst, after nearby party members trigger Vaporize, Melt, Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize reactions, or deal Pyro DMG or Dendro DMG to an opponent affected by Burning, all nearby party members gain a 50% increase to their Pyro DMG and to the corresponding elemental DMG involved in the reaction for 6s.
Constellation 3Increases the Level of Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
Constellation 4Durin’s Elemental Burst DMG is increased by 40%. Additionally, when effects that consume Cycle of Enlightenment stacks are triggered as part of the Constellation Adamah’s Redemption, there is a 30% chance that no Cycle of Enlightenment stacks will be consumed.
Constellation 5Increases the Level of Binary Form: Convergence and Division by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
Constellation 6 ★Durin’s Elemental Burst DMG ignores 30% of opponents’ DEF.
Additionally, Durin’s Elemental Bursts Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts and Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder are each enhanced:
➡ After Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts and Dragon of White Flame hit an opponent, that opponent’s DEF is decreased by 30% for 6s.
➡ DMG from Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder and Dragon of Dark Decay will ignore an additional 40% of opponents’ DEF.
