The official trailer for the animated film, The Day Hanarokusho Breaks (花緑青が明ける日に), has just been released along with the movie’s theme song by imase:
The official trailer confirms a March 6th premiere date and its international acclaim with selection in the 76th Berlin International Film Festival and the Annecy Animation Showcase. This feature-length animation will be directed by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya (debut) and produced by Asmik Ace and Studio Outrigger, along with Miyu Productions. It’s actually a Japan-France co-production project.

Here’s the synopsis:
The story centers on the Obinata Fireworks Shop, a long-established fireworks factory facing forced closure due to town redevelopment. Keitaro Obinata, who grew up at the shop, has been living alone in the factory for years, striving to complete a legendary firework known as Shuhari in place of his missing father. On a late summer day, Keitaro’s childhood friend Kaoru returns from Tokyo just as the eviction deadline looms. Alongside Keitaro’s brother, they reunite after four years and, attempting to reclaim lost time and bonds, devise a bold plan to complete and launch the enigmatic firework. At the heart of their journey is hanarokusho, a beautiful but toxic pigment that holds the key to their hope and future.
