Phainon’s Synergy & Team Compositions in Honkai: Star Rail

In a normal team, you would want to add DPS + Sub DPS/Support + Support + Sustain.
Phainon can also follow the template as he will gain DMG bonus from his Trace ‘Bide in Flames’ when receiving healing or shields, but as someone who cannot die in his Territory, going sustainless most of the time is better (if you have suitable supports) for more damage.
Synergy with Other Characters

In version 3.4, the two best supports for Phainon would be Sunday and Bronya. The Chrysos Heir wants to be the target of an ability as much as possible to gain Coreflame.
Both Sunday and Bronya’s Skill and Ultimate will provide Coreflame for Phainon (Yes, Sunday’s Energy regeneration ability from Ult will also provide Coreflame for Phainon, as can be seen in the Bide in Flames Trace above)

In terms of F2P, Remembrance MC and Tingyun comes with a clutch as the former can provide True DMG buff to Phainon, while the latter can still provide solid buffs and Coreflame generator.

While Ruan Mei does not provide any Coreflame for Phainon (as her Skill and Ultimate taget the whole team instead of a single ally), she is still useful for Phainon’s team in Apocalyptic Shadow. After all, this end-game wants us to Weakness Break the bosses’ toughness as fast as possible to gain the stage buffs.

If you don’t want to go sustainless with Phainon, then Huohuo is the best healer for him. Her Skill can target Phainon to activate his Trace (40% DMG Bonus), while her Ultimate can both activate the Trace and provide Coreflames, in addition with ATK buff.
Team Composition Examples
Here are multiple Phainon’s team example for most of the end-game in Honkai: Star Rail. If any of the supports use Lushaka, the Sunken Seas Planar Ornament, make sure to place Phainon in the first slot to gain the buff.
Phainon’s Talent Priority in Honkai: Star Rail

Skill = Talent > Basic ATK > Ultimate
Phainon’s true potential lies behind his Ultimate, but most of the damages inside the Territory come from his Skill and Basic ATK, while his Talent provides tons of buffs. But of course, his Ultimate also contributes some damage as the Final Hit from the Territory comes from Ultimate level.
