From legendary director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, Kiki’s Delivery Service returns to theatres in an all-new 4K remaster, screening in IMAX starting March 13.

Originally released in 1989, the beloved coming-of-age fantasy follows young witch Kiki as she sets out on her own, building independence, confidence, and community in a seaside town. The film is based on the novel by Eiko Kadono and was written, produced, and directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki.

This new 4K restoration brings renewed clarity to the film’s hand-drawn animation, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship and detail that define Studio Ghibli’s work. The remaster is overseen by longtime Ghibli collaborator Atsushi Okui, who has worked on nearly every major Ghibli project since Porco Rosso and most recently served as Director of Digital Imaging on Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning The Boy and the Heron.

The film will screen in both the original Japanese with English subtitles and the English dub.

The newly revealed poster features original concept art from Yoshifumi Kondo, Studio Ghibli veteran and director of Whisper of the Heart, further celebrating the studio’s artistic legacy. Following the success of the 4K IMAX release of Princess Mononoke earlier in 2025, GKIDS and IMAX continue their partnership to bring Studio Ghibli classics back to theatres in premium formats.
