The upcoming TV anime Kakunaru Ue wa just dropped its first teaser PV, confirming that the manga’s blend of youth, dreams, and chaotic romcom energy is officially headed to television. Serialized in Young Animal and Young Animal Web, the series has already earned back-to-back nominations for the “Next Manga Awards,” and the teaser makes it clear why it’s been such a hit.
The story follows Uehara, a shy otaku whose biggest dream is to become a manga artist. After his love-comedy draft gets rejected for lacking realism, he starts to lose hope. That’s when his classmate Nīna, a flashy gyaru he assumed lived a completely different life, stumbles onto his manuscript. Turns out she also secretly dreams of becoming a manga creator.
From there the two enter a “secret pseudo-relationship” to gather material for their manga, setting off a romcom full of awkward chemistry, unexpected closeness, and two creative weirdos trying to chase the same dream.
ROLL2 is handling animation production, with Shunsuke Ishikawa directing, Deko Akao on series composition, and Hiromi Nakagawa designing the characters. The teaser showcases bright, expressive character acting and a tone that leans fully into youth drama and comedic timing.
Fans can also check out the manga, which has volumes 1–5 available now, with volume 6 releasing on November 28. A limited 48-hour free campaign is running on Young Animal Web, letting readers catch up before the anime drops.

Dante is Editor-in-Chief (Lord Hokage), which means he runs editorial and operations at BrandAnime. That means this whole thing was his idea, and he spends his time making stuff work and covering the latest anime and games. When he's not doing 100 things at once, he's usually... watching anime or playing games. His life isn't that interesting, honestly.
