The winners of the Indie Game Award 2026, hosted by Taipei Game Show, have officially been announced, and this year’s results highlight just how emotionally powerful and creatively diverse the global indie scene has become.
At the center of the spotlight was and Roger, developed by Japan’s TearyHand Studio, which captured both the Grand Prix and Best Audio awards. Judges praised the title for its refined controls and deeply integrated soundtrack, noting how its music amplifies the narrative experience in a way that lingers long after the game ends.
Several panelists openly shared that the game moved them to tears.
A Record-Breaking Year for the Indie Game Award

The 2026 edition marked the largest competition in the award’s 12-year history. Held in collaboration with PlayStation, the program attracted 515 submissions from 51 countries and regions, representing a 1.5× increase over previous years. With competition at an all-time high, only seven titles ultimately took home awards.
This year’s jury and presenters included prominent industry figures such as Shuhei Yoshida (CEO, Yosp, Inc.), Daniel Robson (Executive Producer, IGN JAPAN), Jiyeon Kim (Editor-in-Chief, INVEN), Masahiko Murakami (CEO, BitSummit), Elicia Lee (Chairman, Indie Wavemakers), Rani Kim (BIC Festival), and Lee Chun-I (Director, Experimental Game Lab, National Taiwan University of Arts).

Dante is Editor-in-Chief (Lord Hokage), which means he runs editorial and operations at BrandAnime. That means this whole thing was his idea, and he spends his time making stuff work and covering the latest anime and games. When he's not doing 100 things at once, he's usually... watching anime or playing games. His life isn't that interesting, honestly.
