Crit Rate and Crit Damage are two of the most important stats for dealing high damage in Genshin Impact.

Together, they define how often your attacks land critical hits — and how powerful those hits are. This crit rate Genshin guide explains how both stats work, how to balance them, and how they affect your overall build.

What is Crit Rate?

Here’s the most basic crit rate Genshin meaning:

Crit Rate increases the chance that your attack will land a critical hit, which deals bonus damage.

  • Every character starts with a base 5% Crit Rate.
  • Attacks that crit will deal additional damage based on your Crit DMG stat.
  • Crit Rate can be increased through artifacts, weapons, passives, and team buffs.

What is Crit Damage?

Crit Damage determines how much extra damage you deal when a critical hit occurs.

  • Every character starts with 50% Crit Damage by default.
  • A critical hit with 100% Crit DMG will deal double the normal damage.
  • Like Crit Rate, it can be boosted by artifacts, weapons, ascensions, and buffs.

The Ideal Crit Ratio

A common benchmark is the 1:2 ratio — for every 1% of Crit Rate, aim for 2% Crit Damage.

  • Example: 70% Crit Rate and 140% Crit Damage
  • This ratio is based on optimizing average damage per hit across a long fight.

However, certain characters, weapons, and artifact sets may shift this balance. For example:

  • Ayaka benefits from Cryo Resonance and her passive, making 60%+ Crit Rate easy
  • Hu Tao sometimes favors higher Crit DMG because of her scaling and Vaporize triggers
  • Ganyu can use 50% Crit Rate due to frequent Melt reactions and Blizzard Strayer

How to Increase Crit Rate and Crit Damage

Here’s how you can increase crit rate and crit damage manually:

Sources of Crit Rate:

  • Artifact substats
  • Circlet of Logos (main stat)
  • Weapons like Deathmatch, Blackcliff Pole, Harbinger of Dawn
  • Ascension bonus on characters like Alhaitham or Rosaria
  • Cryo Resonance (15% bonus Crit Rate)
  • Buffs like Rosaria’s passive or certain food

Sources of Crit Damage:

  • Artifact substats
  • Circlet of Logos (main stat)
  • Weapons like Serpent Spine, Blackcliff, Wolf’s Gravestone
  • Ascension stat on characters like Keqing or Yae Miko
  • Artifacts like Blizzard Strayer (+Crit DMG vs frozen enemies)

Characters That Scale with Crit

Some characters naturally gain Crit Rate or Crit Damage as their ascension stat, making it easier to balance their builds.

When to Prioritize One Over the Other

  • If your Crit Rate is too low, you won’t land enough critical hits to benefit from high Crit DMG.
  • If your Crit Damage is too low, your crits won’t feel impactful — even if you land them frequently.

Early game rule of thumb:

  • Focus on getting to 50–60% Crit Rate, then shift toward stacking Crit DMG.
  • Use whichever Circlet gives you the better overall stat balance, even if it’s off-set.

Now that you understand how crit stats affect your overall damage, the next step is knowing which core stat to prioritize based on your character — ATK%, Elemental Mastery, or Flat ATK.
