Spoilers are below. Obviously.
The third season of Spy x Family premiered today, and boy was it a fantastic episode. At first, I was expecting this episode to do 10 minutes of recap and maybe some teasers.
But, nope.
We got to see the Forgers in action right away as Anya was about to chase some balloons and Bond warned her a dangerous guy was nearby and would possibly kill people with nearby construction equipment.
Now, Anya used to get these premonitions from Bond and go off on her own and poor Yor would chase after her while Loid did his own thing.
Typical Spy x Family formula.
But Anya has gotten a lot smarter. She instead told Loid she wanted to study at home to get them all out of the area. Then when they were in a safe distance, we see that the suspicious man is an overworked downtrodden guy who is angry that everyone is enjoying the park but he’s working on his day off.
He gets to work using the construction equipment but loses his shit after falling out of the cab and bird poop landing right on his face. Meanwhile, Anya sees this and asks Loid do construction workers get breaks.
Loid says he thinks so and sees this guy, and his spy brain goes into overtime immediately assessing the situation. After the guy goes bananas, Loid gets hotwires a bulldozer and duels this guy like a scene out of Gundam.

He knocks this guy out while Yor saves a nearby guy from falling debris.
The Forger family is fully locked in at this point.
After the Forgers save the day, Anya has to do exactly what she promised Loid and then goes to study. In the next scene, we see Nightfall, Loid’s rival, get tasked with a mission that requires the help of Franky.
Franky is hilarious and immediately flirts with her but gets serious and agrees to help her. Both of them struggle to work together, but eventually find their footing while escaping the police.
Franky even nearly takes a bullet for her. At the end of the mission, Nightfall says she’ll meet Franky again for more missions and considering all the heat he went through, he says hell no.
This was a really good episode off the bat as we got to see the Forgers in action right away. Anya is using her brain more, and her and Bond are the most unstoppable duo in the show right now.
A telepath and a seer working together with a spy and assassin is insane. If they ever figure out each other’s identities, they’re gonna be so cracked.
Also, Franky was the MVP of this episode. Seeing him with a bag on his head and a gun to Nightfall’s head was fucking hilarious.

For a goofy informant, he’s definitely super competent and doesn’t let anyone get the jump on him, even someone like Nightfall.
Then, these two put on these ridiculous disguises as Franky is boys with everyone in the club all celebrating that he has a girlfriend.
And, Nightfall is trying her best not to assassinate him on the spot.

Overall, this episode was a balanced blend of comedy, action, and intrigue. A really good Spy x Family episode.
And, I’m already looking forward to the next one (Spoiler: It’s about Loid’s childhood omg).
My Grade:

Dante is Editor-in-Chief (Lord Hokage), which means he runs editorial and operations at BrandAnime. That means this whole thing was his idea, and he spends his time making stuff work and covering the latest anime and games. When he's not doing 100 things at once, he's usually... watching anime or playing games. His life isn't that interesting, honestly.
