Itachi Uchiha, the God of Genjutsu…

Who wins in the battle of Minato vs. Itachi?

Let’s find out!

Minato vs. Itachi | Battle Conditions:

  • Location: The Valley of the End (Final Valley)
  • No Handicaps
  • No Reinforcements
  • Battle Until Death

About Minato Namikaze

Minato Namikaze is the Fourth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. A gifted child prodigy, he was trained by Jiraiya, a member of the Legendary Sannin. Early on, Minato showed a remarkable affinity for ninjutsu and quickly rose through the ranks during the 3rd Great Shinobi War.

In fact, Minato received the moniker “The Yellow Flash” and the enemy was given flee-on-sight orders should they encounter him. After distinguishing himself as a hero during the war, Minato was selected by Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, as his successor.

Although he died in his prime, Minato was one of the best shinobi Konoha has ever produced. His mastery over the Flying Thunder God technique and the Rasengan allowed him to quickly defeat Obito and save the Hidden Leaf Village from the Nine-Tailed Fox’s onslaught.

Feats:

  • Minato was the instructor of the Kakashi Hatake, Obito Uchiha, and Rin Nohara.
  • He was taught directly by Jiraiya who hailed him as a once-in-a-lifetime genius.
  • Minato was famed for killing a great entire troop of Hidden Stone shinobi. While he only killed 50 shinobi in the manga, it was speculated that he killed at least 100 shinobi in the anime.
  • Minato was a master of sealing jutsu, taught to him by his wife, Kushina Uzumaki.
  • Minato was an expert tactician, defeating Obito within seconds of analyzing his abilities.
  • Minato could use Sage Mode, albeit for a short period of time.

About Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha is the older brother of Sasuke Uchiha, a man feared for assasinating his entire clan. Born a child prodigy, Itachi joined Konoha’s ANBU under the direction of Kakashi.

He easily distinguished himself as a trusted ally and spy for Konoha, reporting directly to both Danzo and Hiruzen at times. Eventually, Itachi was given the task of killing his entire clan, a request he accepted with the help of Obito.

After the job was finished, Itachi joined the Akatsuki. He waited patiently for his brother to become stronger and kill him, being revived later to help the Great Shinobi Alliance win against Obito.

Itachi was praised by Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, as a man more worthy than himself. His massive intelligence and battle prowess earned him special distinction from Orochimaru, Kisame, Obito, and countless others.

Itachi was a master wielder of the Mangekyō Sharingan, possessing a torrent of powerful abilities only held by Madara Uchiha and Obito.

Feats:

  • Itachi was able to quickly defeat Kakashi and subdue Sasuke with minimal effort.
  • He became an ANBU captain at the age of 12.
  • Itachi easily defeated Orochimaru, a member of the Legendary Sannin.
  • Itachi helped Obito in assassinating the entire Uchiha Clan.
  • Itachi was a member of the Akatsuki, helping to capture the Yagura, the Fourth Mizukage.
  • He was a master of Genjutsu, defeating opponents with a mere point of his finger.

Why Itachi Could Win?

Itachi beats up Sasuke

Itachi Uchiha is one of the most powerful characters in the Naruto. He was an extremely intelligent shinobi who focused on exploiting his enemy’s weaknesses.

Before Naruto Shippuden, Itachi’s only feats were defeating Kakashi and quickly beating his brother, Sasuke. However, in Naruto Shippuden, Itachi’s battle prowess was on full display.

Sasuke trained for three years with Orochimaru, only to be completely outclassed by his elder brother in their duel. Itachi allowed Sasuke to kill him, after showing off his invincible Susanoo, wielding the Yata Mirror and Totsuka Blade.

Itachi’s main strength is genjutsu. If Itachi were to cast a genjutsu on Minato, the battle would be over in a flash. Kakashi found out that truth the hard way.

If Minato was able to counter Itachi and drag the battle out, Itachi could unleash Susanoo and win. Itachi has far more destructive power than Minato.

His Susanoo was completely impenetrable, possessing a sealing blade and a powerful shield. The caveat here is that Itachi has low stamina, caused by an unknown illness and the ill effects of using the Mangekyō Sharingan.

As a result, Itachi doesn’t prefer long battles. He uses strategy to quickly defeat and kill his opponents. With the Fourth Hokage being the most famous shinobi in the world while he was alive, it’s fair to say that Itachi would have known about his abilities.

Itachi could prepare to quickly eliminate Minato without being tagged by his Flying Thunder God technique.

Why Minato Could Win?

Minato using the Rasengan

Minato’s claim to victory here is his batte IQ and speed. He was able to quickly observe his enemies, create a strategy, and defeat them within minutes. Against Obito, who was a mysterious masked shinobi at the time, Minato quickly figured out his Kamui technique and defeated him.

Minato has more battle experience than Itachi and was trained directly by Jiraiya. It’s confirmed that he can enter Sage Mode, which would be a great counter to Itachi’s Susanoo.

In fact, he was proficient in sealing jutsu, which also could’ve worked in his favor in a battle against Itachi. Ultimately, Minato was the fastest shinobi in history.

This meant he had superb reaction time speed, which is a clear counter to Itachi’s genjutsu. Minato is significantly faster than Itachi, who even dodged a super-fast lightning barrage from A, the Fourth Raikage.

If Minato tags Itachi, the battle ends immediately. In addition, Minato doesn’t have issues with stamina, meaning he can fight for as long as he has to, something Itachi would struggle with.

Who Would Win?

Minato

Minato Namikaze is the winner.

But, the battle is very close.

Like his battle with Obito, Minato would attack very quickly to avoid dealing with Itachi’s genjutsu. A genius, Minato would likely know first-hand how to deal with the Sharingan, especially since he tutored Obito.

Minato would likely begin the battle by attacking outright or causing a diversion. As long as Minato is out of Itachi’s line of sight, he can attack him from all angles using his special kunai.

When that happens, Minato could get close to Itachi and kill him with the Rasengan. However, Itachi could use Amaterasu to lure Minato into a trap. Still, Minato could teleport faster and still attack Itachi.

This battle comes down to speed and IQ. Minato has both on his side.
