Saturday, December 14th, 2025, marked the end of the era.
My Hero Academia is finally finished.
It’s crazy, as I remembered when the show premiered, and I used to watch it on Funimation back then.
I’ve followed Deku from when he was a wimp into becoming the world’s greatest hero, and I definitely shed a tear or two when we finally got to see his dream come true.
I won’t spoil anything here, as the final episode isn’t even a week old yet, but I will say this.
My Hero Academia was truly an amazing anime. The title “My Hero Academia” at first seemed as if we would just be following Izuku Midoriya’s hero story from start to finish. After all, he said in the beginning that this is the story of how he became the world’s greatest hero.
I honestly thought he would have his All-Might moment at the end of the final season, and he did, but that’s not at all what this series is about. In the series, we saw the complex world of heroes and how evil wasn’t strong at first. It simply chipped away at hero society, and several villains had real gripes about how the world was, such as Dabi’s abuse by his parents, Shigaraki’s abuse… by his parents, and the heteromorphs being ostracized from society.
There are so many notable events that happened that showed the gradual deterioration of Hero Society, and we even saw the flaws of the world’s top heroes like Endeavor. All-Might was the symbol of peace and shielded everyone from these truths, but when he went down, they became all the more apparent with each passing moment.
Like many, I expected Deku to fill this void and become the hero who can once again save people while smiling. To become the symbol of peace, even greater than All-Might. But that’s not what happened.
When Deku attempted to do this, his friends chased after him and reminded him that he’s not alone:
Now, Class 1-A was clearly outmatched here. A very tired Deku nearly got away from their grasp, but this showed how exhausted Deku was from carrying All-Might’s weight, and he only maybe assumed this role for a month or two.
All-Might stayed in his prime for 30+ years.
We do not give All-Might enough credit, but that’s insane.
He had literally no one, and carried the fate of the world on his back. But when he retired, the world felt the effects immediately. Evil filled the void and led to the collapse of Hero Society behind the League of Villains.
And then the central philosophy of the anime came into view. In a new hero society that benefits all, there is no such thing as a singular symbol of peace. Instead, all heroes must embody what it truly means to protect everyone, forming an unpenetrable barrier against evil.
My Hero Academia was never about Izuku Midoriya’s hero story. It was a collective centered on him and his entire class, changing the tide of the war against Shigaraki and the League of Villains. All throughout the final season, we saw each of Class 1-A come to grips with some uncomfortable truths about heroism, nihilism, and justice.
Instead of just beating the bad guys, they have to adapt and change themselves. And they all helped each other at the end. Even Midoriya got hella help in defeating Shigaraki once and for all.
Seeing the final end credits really made it apparent that the true stars of My Hero Academia were the young hero society at UA. When All-Might fell, Deku picked up the torch. When Deku fell into despair, his friends rescued him.
When Shigaraki threatened the world with the League of Villains, Deku and his friends stopped him. And in the end, the story of these young heroes will once again continue, even as this great anime ends.

Dante is Editor-in-Chief (Lord Hokage), which means he runs editorial and operations at BrandAnime. That means this whole thing was his idea, and he spends his time making stuff work and covering the latest anime and games. When he's not doing 100 things at once, he's usually... watching anime or playing games. His life isn't that interesting, honestly.
