Elemental Bursts are often the most powerful part of a character’s kit, but they can’t be used freely.
Managing Energy Recharge (ER) is key to keeping your rotations smooth and maintaining burst uptime in combat. This guide explains how ER works and how to optimize it for your team.
Table of Contents
What Is Energy Recharge?
Energy Recharge is a stat that increases the amount of energy gained from particles and orbs.
- Each Elemental Burst costs a certain amount of energy (e.g., 40/60/80).
- Higher Energy Recharge helps characters refill their Burst faster.
- 100% ER = normal rate. 200% ER = double energy gain.
How Energy Is Generated
Energy is generated by:
- Using Elemental Skills
- Defeating enemies
- Catching elemental particles or energy orbs
- Support units (“batteries”) generating particles for the team
Elemental particles match the element of the skill used. Matching element = more energy gained.
Recommended ER Thresholds
Different characters require different amounts of Energy Recharge depending on their energy cost, rotation role, and team composition.
| Character Type | Suggested ER |
|---|---|
| Low-cost burst (40–60) | 120–140% |
| High-cost burst (80) | 160–200% |
| Off-field sub-DPS | 180–220% |
| Support battery role | 200%+ |
Characters That Need High ER
- Xiangling – 80 energy cost, frequent burst
- Raiden Shogun – synergy with high ER scaling
- Yelan – flexible but burst-focused
- Shenhe – expensive Cryo burst
- Dori – Electro battery and healer
Battery Characters
Some characters are especially good at generating particles for others.
- Fischl – consistent Electro particles
- Sucrose – Anemo particles and swirl utility
- Albedo – Geo battery with quick skill cooldown
- Favonius weapon users – generate extra orbs on crit
Weapons & Artifacts That Boost ER
Here are some weapons and artifacts in Genshin Impact that can boost ER:
Weapons:
- Favonius Warbow / Codex / Lance / Sword
- Sacrificial series (for extra skill casts)
- Engulfing Lightning (ER to ATK conversion)
Artifacts:
- Emblem of Severed Fate (ER = Burst DMG bonus)
- Noblesse Oblige (burst support)
- Substats: ER% on sands or as substat on all pieces
When to Use ER Sands
- Use ER% Sands if your character can’t recharge their burst reliably
- Common for characters with 80 energy cost, no team battery, or short rotations
- Switch to ATK% or HP% Sands when burst uptime is consistent
Summary
- Energy Recharge is vital for burst uptime and smooth rotations
- Use batteries or high-ER builds for characters with expensive bursts
- Balance between ER and damage — too much ER can lower overall DPS if not needed
